Celebrating the achievements of NHS colleagues

Posted: 27th June 2025

The Medipex NHS Innovation Awards and Showcase celebrates the innovative achievements of NHS colleagues from across the country.

Recently, 90 healthcare innovators from the NHS, universities, companies and charities, funders and innovation support organisations came together in an online awards ceremony to find out the 2025 finalists.

As in previous years, we continue to support the event through sponsorship and a seat on the judging panel.

The Medipex Innovation Awards showcases innovative ideas for new technologies designed to deliver patient benefits and improve services.

At the online event, the 12 finalists were showcased and there were keynote speeches from Dil Rathore and Moninder Bhogal from the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, outlining their innovation progress since winning one of the categories at the 2024 awards, and the second from Charmaine Mulligan from SBRI Healthcare, regarding funding disruptive innovations.

Neville Young, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber said:

“We’ve been supporting these awards for at least the last ten years now. It’s always exciting to see the new innovations that are presented to the judging panel and how these solutions and services ultimately benefit patients. This event is also an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our NHS colleagues.”

“As part of our collaborative working with Medipex, we have provided ongoing support to some of the innovators who have received recognition at the awards.”

One of the innovators we supported from last year’s winners was Dil Rathore, Pathology Innovation Lead at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Dil won an award for his innovation which uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to provide continuous tracking of cancer tissue samples.  Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber is now supporting this project with a Health Economic evaluation being conducted by York Health Economic Consortium to assess the cost saving potential of the innovation and help to inform further roll out.

Medipex CEO Lindsay Georgopoulos said:

“Once again the judging panel was blown away by the quality of the applications and the range of innovations submitted to the competition.  The entries with supporting videos were a huge hit with the audience, each using a different method of conveying information about the problem that they’re solving, and the benefits offered by their solution.  A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, and congratulations to all our finalists and winners”
