Digital inclusion pilot to help people use the NHS App

Posted: 15th May 2025

Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber is pleased to be working in partnership with Virgin Media O2 Business and NHS England on a pilot digital inclusion project to help members of the public across West Yorkshire get the most out of the NHS App.

The project stemmed from  Virgin Media O2 Business’s ‘Connect More’ digital skills programme, which aims to build people’s confidence using digital skills, spread digital inclusion and remove barriers to accessing digital healthcare.

Until 7 July, three Leeds O2 stores will have trained staff on hand to give free advice to anyone who is interested in accessing and using the NHS App – from installing it to ordering repeat prescriptions.

Anyone can access this support – it is not just for Virgin O2 customers – and no appointment is necessary. Members of the public can simply drop into one of the participating stores at any time to learn more about using the NHS App.

The stores involved in the pilot are:

  • Crossgates, LS15 8ET
  • Trinity Centre, LS1 5AE
  • White Rose shopping Centre, LS11 8LL

By making use of accessible high-street locations, the pilot aims to reach members of the public who might not traditionally think the App is something they would use to give it a try.

If successful, the initiative will be rolled out nationwide to O2’s stores.

Graham Walsh, Medical Director, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber said:

“As a clinician, I am thrilled to be part of this collaboration between Virgin Media O2 Business and Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, supporting the NHS through this digital inclusion initiative.

By bringing this support to the high-street, we are ensuring that as many people as possible can access digital healthcare services via the NHS App, improving convenience for patients and ensuring that care is delivered closer to home.

This initiative will undoubtedly help bridge the digital divide, making healthcare more accessible and equitable for all. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have on patient outcomes and overall healthcare delivery.”
