Richard Stubbs, Chief Executive of Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber, has been appointed an Honorary Professor at Sheffield Hallam University. In this role Richard will share his insights and experience from over a decade of leading health innovation transformation locally, nationally and internationally, supporting the university as it trains and develops the next generation of health and care staff.
Speaking about his appointment, Richard said:
“It’s a real honour to have received this award from Sheffield Hallam University. The university is an important institution in our Yorkshire landscape and one that has played a pivotal role in the lives of several of my family members.
“This is a critical time for the NHS, but one that also brings many opportunities for us to improve the way we deliver for our patients and citizens through the technological breakthroughs that we are witnessing in digital, medical devices, diagnostics and new medicines.
“A modern NHS will require a modern workforce that is confident and curious to explore how these new breakthroughs can be used to improve patient care. I’m looking forward to working with the academic staff and students to help them be ready for this future of healthcare.”
Professor Liz Mossop, Vice Chancellor and Chair of the Senior Academic Progression (Professoriate) Committee said:
“Sheffield Hallam University is delighted to award Richard Stubbs an Honorary Professorship. Richard’s expertise in health innovation aligns tightly with our ambition to create the most advanced cluster for health, wellbeing and sustainability in the world and our role as one of the leading health-training providers in the UK. The knowledge, expertise and vision he brings will support the next generation of healthcare professionals, inspire our applied researchers and help us to deliver our civic commitment to address the key health challenges the city, region and country faces.”
In addition to his chief executive role, Richard currently chairs the university’s advisory board for the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), a £14m research institution established to develop innovations that will improve population health and physical activity. He has recently been appointed as an Ambassador at Sheffield Hospitals Charity, and sits on the Mayoral Economic Advisory Committee, part of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, as well as chairing the board of the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Paediatrics and Child Health.
