Improving rehabilitation outcomes using NROL (neurorehabilitation online)

REGISTER

Join our webinar to discover how NROL’s online rehabilitation supports people recovering from stroke and neurological conditions.

Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber invites physiotherapists, neurorehabiliation leads, and service leads to attend a webinar to hear more about NeuroRehabilitation OnLine (NROL), an innovative, digitally delivered multidisciplinary rehabilitation service for people recovering from stroke and neurological conditions. NROL was co-created by NHS clinical teams, Lancaster University, ELAROS 24/7 Ltd, SameYou and Health Innovation North West Coast. NROL provides therapy through live online group sessions led by NHS clinicians. These sessions support physical movement, thinking skills and communication.

It has been successfully implemented and adapted across multiple regions and the service has demonstrated sustainable, scalable delivery through strong cross-sector collaboration and robust independent evaluation. Patients are seeing meaningful improvements in their daily lives, including greater independence, confidence and ability to manage at home. Many report improved wellbeing and reduced feelings of isolation.

This webinar will cover results of implementation in Lancashire and in North Yorkshire. In Lancashire, 240 patients used the service in 2025, equating to around 2,100 extra hours of therapy without the need to travel. Around 60% of patients referred to the service attended sessions consistently, highlighting the acceptability of the approach to a large cohort of patients.

Speakers on the webinar will include clinicians who developed the NROL programme, developers who built the digital facility for programme delivery, and academics who have evaluated the effectiveness of the intervention:

  • Adam Partington – Physiotherapist and operational lead for NROL at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Ian Grimshaw – NROL implementation manager at East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust
  • Eleanor Sowerby, Louise Connell, Suzanne Ackerly – evaluators at Lancaster University
  • Emma Crookes – Physiotherapist and operational lead for NROL at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Roman Rocha Lawrence – Commercialisation Director, Elaros
  • Sophie Bates – Workstream Lead, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber

NHS physiotherapists, operational leads, neurorehabilitation leads and stroke specialists are invited to attend to hear more about the benefits that NROL could bring to their patients.
