Delegates discuss future of workforce transformation

Posted: 30th October 2019

Yorkshire and Humber AHSN, working in partnership with Health Education England and The Calderdale Framework Ltd, welcomed delegates from across the healthcare system to discuss the future of workforce transformation and how best to organise our systems to handle current and future challenges.

The conference, which took place at The Met Hotel in Leeds, featured keynote presentations from the front-line of workforce transformation in the North, across the UK and the extremely successful large-scale, strategic implementation of the Calderdale Framework across Queensland Australia.

The conference was an opportunity discuss the vision set out by the NHS People Plan and the NHS Long Term Plan and inform how we grow and transform the NHS workforce so that it is more flexible and adaptive.

Speakers included:

  • Candace Imison, Director of Strategy, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Jayne Duffy & Rachael Smith, Creators and Developers of The Calderdale Framework.
  • Sharon Harrison, National Programme Manager, Health Education England
  • Michela Littlewood Head of Nursing & Quality Assurance IUC/NHS, 111/YAS
  • Dr Alison Pighills, Associate Professor Health Practitioner research, Mackay Hospital, Queensland, Australia

Delegates were invited to attend four breakout sessions throughout the day, to hear from teams who have successfully used the Calderdale Framework to remodel their teams. We also learnt about the main barriers and challenges to success and how some of these were overcame.

Some feedback from the event:

“I attended the conference yesterday, I found this really interesting with lots of opportunities for my colleagues and I to engage with the network.”

“Why are we not all facilitators!? As a clinical leadership fellow, [the Calderdale Framework] should be part of all clinical leadership/future leader programmes.”

“[My highlight of the day was] Some excellent conversations with trained facilitators, very open and honest dialogue with some genuine learnings, not just a sales pitch.”

“I thought the breakout sessions were useful to hear what has been achieved within the region”

All the presentations from the conference are now available to download as PDF files.
