Driving investment and growth

As part of the national health innovation network, we have contributed to leveraging £1.5billion of investment into the national health and care innovation ecosystem.
Over the last 12 months we worked with NHS, industry, local government, academic and other partners to submit 16 grant applications, with two companies securing funding to further develop their products.
We support innovators seeking funding for product development or clinical evidence generation to help them identify grant funding opportunities which are suitable for the business’s stage of growth and the innovation’s stage of development.
Our support ranges from advising innovators on the structure of grant applications to providing a detailed review service on draft submissions. We also assist innovators with identifying clinical partners for grant applications and with identifying evaluators, health economists and other stakeholders who could strengthen their project team.
Successful applications include:
- Redmoor Health and North West Doncaster Primary Care Network received £153,000 from the British Heart Foundation to deliver a CVD programme to support people to lead healthier lifestyles.
- Tetra Tech received seed funding investment of £450,000 to develop their surgical scheduling solution in conjunction with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
As a result of applications supported in 2024/25, £8,097,470 was secured through 10 successful bids awarded during 2025/26. This includes a £3 million research project led by the University of Hull which involves engineering artificial blood vessels to replicate key aspects of the human circulation system. Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber is part of the project cohort delivering market analysis and commercialisation advice.
As there were fewer funding opportunities from SBRI Healthcare than in previous years, we helped to identify alternative funding sources, supporting applications to the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (ERSPC) and local funding initiatives.
