NIHR funding call for early-stage medical technologies

Posted: 28th April 2020

The NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) Programme has launched the 20th round of its i4i Product Development Awards (PDAs).

Early stage medical technologies that address existing or emerging healthcare needs can now apply for funding from the National Institute for Health Research ‘Invention for Innovation’ programme. The aim of the programme is to de-risk early stage projects that have a strong potential for commercialisation and acceptance for use in the NHS, making them attractive to follow-on funders and investors.

The programme funds collaborative research projects that have demonstrated proof-of-principle and have a clear pathway towards adoption and commercialisation.

The Institute is inviting proposals to its researcher-led Product Development Awards (PDAs) which fund the development of disruptive, early stage, medical technologies including developing medical devices, active implantable devices, and in vitro diagnostic devices.

PDAs also support projects that use and develop techniques or technologies from other industry sectors that could have a potential impact if applied in a healthcare setting.
